HUNDRED WORD HIT #1 - THE PLUNGE
The Plunge #1-6 by Joe Hill & Stuart Immonen
Following a tsunami off the coast of Alaska a coast guard station picks up a distress signal from The Derleth (yes that’s a nod to the Lovecraft mythos!), a ship thought lost for over 40 years. The crew of the MacReady (and yes that’s a nod to John Carpenter’s The Thing!) go to investigate. The missing ‘crew’ is located, so are strange mathematical signs, weird worms turn up and there’s a mysterious ingot that turns men mad. Hill writes a creepy story interspersed with dark humour. Immonen’s art is great as always and Gary Frank does some nice variant covers.
Rating - 7.5 out of 10
